GCOM-C Validation Projects

GCOM-C validation projects information

What is Global Change Observation Mission (GCOM) - Climate.
GCOM-C mission aims to establish and demonstrate a global, long-term satellite-observing system to measure essential geophysical parameters to facilitate understanding the global radiation budget and carbon cycle mechanism, and eventually contribute to improving future climate projection through a collaborative framework with climate model institutions. The GCOM-C satellite scheduled to be launched in Japanese Fiscal Year 2017 by EORC/JAXA Web.
Succesful launch, H-IIA F37 encapsulating "SHIKISAI" (GCOM-C/SGLI) and "TSUBAME" at 23 Dec, 2017.

This web site is members only. Sky radiometer measurements of the direct and diffuse solar radiation provide information to calculate the aerosol optical thickness at each wavelength, Angstrom exponent, single scattering albedo at each wavelength, size distribution of volume (dV/dlnr) and etc. Data have been analyzed by an inversion software called SKYRAD.pack (Nakajima et al. 1996). Available version and quality levels are SKYRAD.pack 4.2 (Level 0, 1A, and 2A). Version 4.2 can retrieve the single scattering albedo at each wavelength.

Data format

V42L0: Quasi-real time data for SKYRAD.pack Version 4.2 (until 30 degree)
V42L1A: Semi-quality-assured data for SKYRAD.pack Version 4.2 (full angle)
V42L2A: Quality-assured data for SKYRAD.pack Version 4.2 (full angle)

+ Version 4.2 Level-0 (V42L0): V42L0 can retrieve the aerosol optical thickness and Angstrom exponent. We used until 30 degree. This results is quasi-real time data.
